Box Score

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Erica Hitch and Kayla Reilly each had five goals, while Annie Cook turned in a school-record six assists as Campbell defeated Kennesaw State 16-12 on Sunday afternoon at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Camels (1-3) rallied from a 7-5 halftime deficit with 11 goals in the second half as the Owls (1-5) surrendered two three-goal streaks and managed just five goals of their own in the frame.

Hitch and Kayla Reilly led the squad with five goals apiece, Loren Day tallied a hat trick with three scores and Kaki Armiger added a pair for the Camels. Cook notched her name in the record books with six assists, while Hitch also tallied two of her own.

Day also controlled six draws for Campbell, while Sierra Fox led the team by picking up five ground balls.

For Kennesaw State, Sydney Farwick and Taylor McGhee fired three goals apiece, and Lucy Mills and Emily Hallberg each finished with two. In goal, Allison Senft made 13 saves on 29 shots for the Owls.

Campbell grabbed an early lead just 30 seconds into the contest on a free position blast from Hitch, but Kennesaw State answered with four consecutive goals to put the Camels in a 4-1 hole midway through the first half.

Kayla Reilly's goal at 12:14 sparked a 4-0 burst from the Camels over the next seven and a half minutes. Hitch added another score, while Day sent two into the net for Campbell, including a shorthanded tally at 4:45 to cap the run and put the Camels back in front with a 5-4 lead.

Kennesaw State sent three goals into the back of the cage over the final 1:38 of the first frame, the first two coming while a player down, and Campbell trailed 7-5 heading into the halftime break.

Coming out of the locker room, the Camels scored four of the first five goals of the second half, sparked by Armiger's duo. Cook assisted on three of the four scores as Campbell re-took a slim 9-8 advantage with 23:44 remaining.

While the Owls would pull even three more times, Campbell never again trailed in the contest. Kayla Reilly's hat trick over the final 21:38, along with two goals from Hitch and one from Day, preserved the victory for the Camels.

Campbell will go on the road for the first time this season in its next time out, traveling to Fresno, Calif., to take on Fresno State on Wednesday evening at 10:00 p.m. The matchup will be the first meeting between the two sides and will mark just the second time that the Camels have played a game away from the East Coast.
