BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell hosts an Atlantic Coast Conference school for the second-straight day Wednesday when North Carolina State visits Amanda Littlejohn Stadium for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Fighting Camels (13-8) are coming off a 4-3 loss Tuesday to Notre Dame. State swept a 3-game set from the Irish over the weekend in Raleigh.
Camel Tracks: Campbell has won 7 of its last 10 outings… Katie Baker did not have an official at-bat as a freshman in 2014, but clubbed her first career home run - a 3-run shot - Tuesday against Notre Dame... Camise Patterson's second HR of the season came against Morehead State Saturday in a pinch-hitting role and provided Campbell's second walk-off round-tripper of the year… Maggie Christopher's first career HR on Feb. 8 was a walk-off 2-run shot in a 5-4 win over ETSU… Ericka Nesbitt is batting .459 for the year (tops in the Big South Conference) and hitting .588 with runners in scoring position, while batting safely in 19 of 21 outings (including the last 7)… Freshman 1B Chandler Patterson leads the Camels with 5 HR and 25 RBI in 21 games. Ten of her RBI have come with two out… Julia Callicutt won both of her starts last week and fashioned a 2-0 record with a 1.47 ERA in 3 outings (14.1 innings). She struck out 13, while surrendering only 7 hits and 3 walks. She tossed complete game wins over Fairfield and IPFW… On the year, Callicutt stands 5-2 with a 2.37 ERA and a team-leading 63 Ks in 59.0 innings... Campbell opens Big South Conference play Saturday at Radford with a 1 pm DH, followed by Sunday's 1 pm single contest... State leads the all-time series with CU 13-1 and has won the last 7 outings following last year's 4-2 victory in Raleigh...
Campbell vs. the ACC: Campbell already has two victories in three outings this year against Atlantic Coast Conference schools... In a 6-4 win over Boston College Feb. 14 at Statesboro, Ga., Chandler Patterson, Lia Batchelor and Camise Patterson all homered for the Camels, who had 9 hits and only stranded 3 base runners. Julia Callicutt tossed 5 innings to earn the victory, while Courtney Roberts worked 2 frames for the save... In a 5-2 victory against Virginia on Feb. 22 at Orlando, Ericka Nesbitt and Stephanie Jones both singled twice and drove in a pair of runs to support the complete-game effort of starter Katie Baker, who scattered five hits and struck out four... On Tuesday, Katie Baker hit a 3-run shot and Brittany Bruce and Melissa Tullar just missed homers in a 4-3 loss to Notre Dame at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. Tullar's blast in the 4th inning was caught at the wall, while Notre Dame's Emily Koerner reached over the wall in left centerfield to bring back Bruce's drive to lead off the 5th.. Campbell also hosts ACC member North Carolina (Apr. 14) this season.
Scouting the Wolfpack: After sweeping a 3-game set from Notre Dame in its ACC opener, NC State is ranked No. 25 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/USA Today and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 polls this week... State outscored Notre Dame 21-7 over the course of the series, claiming last Saturday's doubleheader 4-2 and 9-2 . On Sunday, the Pack completed the sweep with an 8-3 win to earn the program's first three-game sweep of a ranked conference opponent. Wolfpack batters hit nine home runs in the series... State enters Wednesday's DH 0-7 in true road games this year... Molly Hutchison leads the team with a .380 batting average and 6 home runs... Tyler Ross has a .327 average, 4 round-trippers and a team-leading 12 RBI... As a team, State has clubbed 24 HRs in 17 games... Courtney Mirabella (4-2, 1.79 ERA) and Emily Weiman (6-5, 3.00) have combined to start all 17 games.
