Day named Choice Hotels Big South Offensive Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Junior Loren Day has earned Choice Hotels Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

The accolades are Day's second in three weeks after the Bushwood, Md., also captured the Offensive Player of the Week award on March 3.

Day and the Camels posted a 1-1 record last week in a pair of one-goal decisions, defeating Mercer 14-13 on Tuesday before falling 21-20 against LIU-Brooklyn on Saturday in the highest combined scoring game in program history.

Against the Bears, Day netted five goals and assisted on three others to lead Campbell. Four of her five strikes came unassisted, including a goal with 12:16 to play that put the Camels ahead for good in the victory. The junior fired eight of her 12 shots on target while controlling four draws and scooping up a pair of ground balls for the Camels.

Day turned in one of the best statistical games of her career against the Blackbirds on Saturday, matching a career-high with seven goals and adding three more assists for a career-best 10 points. Four of her goals came in the first half and helped to push the Camels to an 11-9 advantage at the halftime break, while her man-up goal with 8:19 to play pulled Campbell level at 16-16. Day posted a game-high six draw controls and picked up two more ground balls to add to her afternoon.

For the season, Day leads Campbell in both goals (28) and assists (12) and is on pace for career-highs in both categories.

Campbell will be back in action next Friday, March 27, as the squad travels to face St. Francis (Pa.). The Camels have defeated the Red Flash in each of the program's first two seasons and will look to take a 3-0 lead in the series.
