RALEIGH, N.C. - Lawrence Kipkoech broke a 27-year old school record in the 10,000m run by more than 20 seconds en route to a gold medal, one of five top-10 individual finishes for Campbell at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State on Friday.
Kipkoech and Amon Terer battled to a 1-2 finish in the long-distance race as each easily topped the previous record in the event; Kipkoech, only a freshman, now owns the records in the indoor 3,000m and 5,000m runs as well as the outdoor 10,000m run.
Saturday's action at the Raleigh Relays will get underway at 10:00 a.m. with the men's hammer and javelin throws and the women's pole vault and will conclude at approximately 4:35 p.m. with the women's 4x400m relay.
Following is an event-by-event recap of Campbell's action from the Friday's opening day of the Raleigh Relays.
Women's 100m Hurdles (Prelims)
Lilla Juhasz qualified for Saturday's finals in one of her signature events, taking fourth place with a time of 14.07.
Women's 400m Dash
Lynette Akai led the way for the Camels, placing eighth overall with a time of 56.19. Asia Olds also turned in a top-20 performance, capturing 17th overall after crossing the line in 57.20.
Men's 1,500m Run
Morgan Timiney and Eric Baldwin represented Campbell in the mid-distance event, with Timiney taking the lead by finishing ninth in 3:50.53. Baldwin placed 45th overall with a time of 3:56.16.
Men's 10,000m Run
Lawrence Kipkoech claimed the third school record of his young career, smashing the previous mark held by Ken Frenette by more than 20 seconds and grabbing the victory with a time of 29:20.11. Amon Terer was hot on his heels, bringing home a runner-up finish in 29:22.59, while Evan Darm placed 31st overall and crossed the line in 30:26.21.
Men's High Jump
Davian Rhodes grabbed a fourth-place finish in his signature event, reaching a height of 6-4.75 (1.95m).
