Campbell tops St. Francis (Pa.) 18-5 in road tilt

Box Score

LORETTO, Pa. - Campbell shut out St. Francis (Pa.) in the first half, and seven goals from Erica Hitch helped to push the Camels to an 18-5 victory over the Red Flash at DeGol Field on Friday afternoon.

The Camels' win was their first on the road this season and their third consecutive win over St. Francis after also defeating the Red Flash in each of the last two seasons.

Hitch led all players with both seven goals and three assists, and Loren Day posted her fourth consecutive hat trick for Campbell (3-6) with four goals. Rebecca Sheinfeld, Carter Koontz and Kayla Reilly each added two goals apiece.

Sheinfeld led the squad after scooping up four ground balls, and April Reinhart forced a pair of turnovers on defense.

In goal, Merredith Bechler kept a clean sheet over the first 30 minutes of action and finished with eight saves as the Camels held St. Francis to just five goals, the fewest by a Campbell opponent this season.

For the Red Flash (3-6), Christina Fini and Katie Schaaf each scored a pair of goals. Heather McKee picked up the loss in goal, making 14 saves while surrendering 16 goals during her 50:59 between the posts.

Day scored three of her four goals while Hitch and Kayla Reilly added a pair apiece in the first half as Campbell shut out an opponent in a half for the first time this season. Six of Campbell's 10 goals in the opening frame were unassisted strikes, including a free position goal by Kaki Armiger at the 18:28 mark.

The Camels scored the first goal in the second half off the stick of Hitch to take an 11-0 lead before St. Francis finally got on the board with three straight scores over the next five minutes, punctuated by Blair Rosenburg's goal with 24:41 to play.

Despite having its double-digit lead erased, Campbell responded with six unanswered goals to build a 17-3 advantage with just 7:40 left on the clock. Hitch added three more goals during the stretch, while Sheinfeld, Day and Koontz also chipped in tallies for the Camels.

St. Francis scored two of the final three goals over the final two minutes of the game, but could not cut into the lead any further as Campbell claimed the 18-5 decision.

Campbell will return to action on Sunday afternoon at Noon for its final non-conference game of the season at Robert Morris. The matchup will be the first in program history between the Camels and the Colonials.
