WILMINGTON, N.C. – With four golfers among the top 19 individuals, Campbell owns a two-stroke lead through Sunday's second round of the Seahawk Intercollegiate.
Army (296-290—586) is second in the 14-school event, which concludes Monday. Harvard (588), Old Dominion (591) and 30th-ranked Georgia (592) round out the top five.
Gaston Bertinotti is tied for third at even-par 144 (74-70), while Jeremy Nevius is tied for 12th (79-67—146) and Craig Hornberger tied for 15th (75-72—147). Thomas La Morte is tied for 19th (75-73—148) and Mikko Lehtovuori tied for 58th (78-79—157).
Co-leaders Peter Kim of Army (72-70—142) and Lee McCoy of Georgia (70-72—142) were the only golfers in the 78-man field to finish the day in red numbers on the par-72, 6916-yard Country Club of Landfall Ocean & Marsh course.
Campbell followed an opening round 302 with a six-under 282 on Sunday afternoon for a 36-hole score of 584, the team's third-best of the season. Bertinotti played the par four holes at 2-under, best in the field and was tied for third with 25 pars.
A red-shirt freshman, Nevius recorded a collegiate career-low 67 Sunday afternoon and is four-under on the par fives (tied for first). His opening two rounds included eight birdies (tied for sixth) and an eagle.
Hornberger made eight birdies and played the par-four holes at one-under (tied for second). La Morte was two-under on the par fives, while Lehtovuori had 23 pars, tied for 11th.
