BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Senior Kiera Gaines has been named to the 2014-15 University Division All-State First Team by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
Gaines is just the second Lady Camel to earn First Team recognition from the association since it began distributing the awards following the 2004-05 season; Marlena Murphy also earned the honors after the 2006-07 year. Gaines also earned Second Team accolades from the NCCSIA last season.
The Mechanicsville, Va., native led the Lady Camels with 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds this season while also ranking second in blocks (27), steals (81) and assists (92). She also finished the season with seven double-doubles, all recorded with points and rebounds.
In one of her most well-balanced games of the season, Gaines posted 11 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and assists and a pair of blocks against High Point inside Gore Arena on Feb. 14. With Campbell clinging to a 62-61 lead with one minute to play, the senior recorded both of her blocks, including a swat of Kat Harris' three-pointer with two seconds to play that could have sent the game into overtime.
With 91 starts in 123 career appearanes, Gaines established a new program mark for games played when she came off the bench against Winthrop in the Big South Quarterfinals on March 5. She also finished her career as Campbell's all-time leader in blocked shots with 111, recording at least 25 blocks in each of her four seasons.
In addition to her two records, Gaines also ranks in the top 10 of several more categories in Campbell's record books. Defensively, her 880 career rebounds are the sixth-most by a Lady Camel and her 234 steals are fifth on the program's charts. Gaines' 332 assists also rank 10th among all Lady Camels.
Nominees for the 2014-15 All-State women's basketball teams were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
