Camels sweep Big South weekly men's golf awards

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After producing a runner-up finish at the Long Beach State Del Walker Intercollegiate, Campbell University swept the Big South Conference men's golf weekly honors.  Jeremy Nevius was named Choice Hotels golfer of the week, while Thomas La Morte was chosen as The Crons Brand freshman of the week.

Nevius matched his collegiate career low in both the first and second round and shot a one-over 71 on Tuesday to tie for fourth place at one-under-par 209 (69-69-71), the best finish of his career.  The red-shirt freshman from Metuchen, N.J., tied for first in the field in par-five scoring at six-under.  Nevius finished the tournament with two eagles, nine birdies and 32 pars on the par-70, 6562-yard Virginia Country Club layout.

Campbell posted its best team finish of the season, placing second in the event hosted by Long Beach State.

La Morte made 10 birdies and played the par-five layouts at four-under to follow last month's 16th-place tie at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate with a second top-20 effort in only his second collegiate tournament.  The freshman from Demarest, N.J., shot a collegiate career low 69 in both the opening and final rounds and tied for 19th (69-76-69—214) at four-over par.

The Camels continue their spring season Mar. 14-15 in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular at Howey in the Hills, Fla.
