BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell (11-6) won its first game of the Hampton Inn Camel Stampede as Camise Patterson blasted a home run over the fence on a full count to lift the Camels over the Morehead State Eagles, 2-1.
Patterson's home run was her second of the season, with her first coming against Boston College on Feb. 14.
After winning their first game of the day, 6-2, the Eagles (4-10) were limited to only seven hits throughout seven innings against sophomore Katie Baker (7-2.) Allowing only one unearned run, Baker stuck out four and walked none.
Morehead State's Megan Tymorek (0-5) suffered the loss, pitching six innings and allowing two runs, six hits, suffering two errors, and walking two batters against the Camels.
The Camels struck first and early on in the game, when Katie Baker was able to advance to third after a sacrifice bunt from senior Ericka Nesbitt. Stephanie Jones would then drive Baker in and was credited with an RBI.
Both Dana Hutchings and Robyn Leighton each had a pair of hits for the Eagles, but it was Kayla McGuffey who would score the one run for Morehead State.
Senior Maggie Christopher was the only Camel who had an extra base hit, when she hit a double to left field in the bottom of the second inning.
After the Eagles were able to tie up the contest, senior Camise Patterson would be the one to win it for Campbell as she was up to bat with zero outs in the bottom of the seventh.
With the count full, Patterson swung on the final pitch she was delivered and watched as the ball went flying over the center field fence to end the game.
