Kipkoech named Big South Track Athlete of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman Lawrence Kipkoech has been selected as the Big South Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.

After breaking a pair of school records during the indoor season, Kipkoech picked up his third record last weekend at the Raleigh Relays, breaking Ken Frenette's 27-year old record in the men's 10,000m run. The freshman powered to the gold medal in the event with a time of 29:20.11, more than 20 seconds faster than the previous mark.

Kipkoech now owns the Campbell records in the outdoor 10,000m run as well as the indoor 3,000m and 5,000m runs. He was the lone Camel to earn All-Big South honors at the Indoor Championships in three separate events: the mile run, 3,000m run and 5,000m run. For his performance, Kipkoech was named the Big South Male Freshman of the Year for 2015.

Campbell will return to action this Friday and Saturday as the squad travels to High Point, N.C., to participate in the HPU VertKlasse Meeting.
