ROCK HILL, S.C. – Maddie Antone homered and drove in three runs to lead Winthrop to a 7-4 win over Campbell Saturday and a Big South Conference softball series sweep at Terry Field.
One day after winning a pair of one-run, comeback decisions, Winthrop (19-22, 8-8) jumped to a 3-0 lead after two innings Saturday. Antone drove in a run with a single in the first; then hit a two-run homer to key a four-run fifth.
Brittany Bruce put the Camels on the board with her seventh homer of the year to lead off the fifth. Camise Patterson also smacked her team-leading eighth home run for CU, while Katie Baker went 2-4 at the plate.
Winthrop starter Dallas King (4-9) worked four and 1/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Julia Callicutt (10-7) suffered the loss for Campbell after surrendering two earned runs on six hits in four and 2/3 frames with six walks and three punch outs.
Campbell (21-24, 3-14) returns home Tuesday in a 6:00 p.m. start against North Carolina at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
