Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. - Five different Camels found the back of the net, but a 15-0 run by High Point beginning midway through the first half dealt Campbell a 21-6 setback in Big South play at Vert Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 5-2 with 16:40 remaining in the opening frame, Campbell (3-11, 0-4) could not overcome a 40-minute scoring drought as High Point (5-8, 3-1) tallied 15 unanswered scores, the last coming off the stick of Abby Berrettone with 7:29 remaining in the contest.
Loren Day led the Camels with a pair of goals, while Annie Cook, Hayley Carroll, Mackenzie Koeller and Carter Koontz also found the back of the net. Day and Erica Hitch, the squad's two leading scorers, each notched a pair of assists on the day.
Defensively, Grace Boyce forced a pair of turnovers to lead Campbell, while Merredith Bechler finished with six saves while playing the full 60 minutes between the pipes.
For the Panthers, Erica Perrotta and Allie Foard each fired hat tricks to lead all scorers. Kristina Renner scooped up a game-high four ground balls, while Renner and Leah Pace led all players with four draw controls.
Julia Burns played every minute in net for High Point, turning away a pair of shots in the victory.
High Point jumped ahead early with three unanswered goals over the first three and a half minutes, but an unassisted strike by Day cut the Panther lead to 3-1 with 24:30 on the clock.
Eight minutes later, Day again provided a spark for the Camels off a free position attempt, her 10th such goal of the season. Her score brought Campbell back within three, 5-2, with 16:40 to play in the half.
High Point's 15-0 run, spurred by all six goals from Perrotta and Ford, gave the Panthers a 20-2 lead with 7:29 remaining in regulation. Cook's goal with just over five minutes to play put an end to the run and helped to fuel a late Campbell rally.
The Camels finished the game by scoring four of the final five goals to reach the final 21-6 scoreline.
Campbell will return to action on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. as the Camels welcome Presbyterian to Barker-Lane Stadium for the first of three straight home matchups to end the regular season. The Camels have defeated the Blue Hose in each of the program's first two seasons, including a 16-13 win in Buies Creek in 2013.
