BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell pitchers Julia Callicutt and Katie Baker allowed only two runs and five hits Wednesday night in a softball doubleheader sweep of North Carolina Central at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
In the opener, Julia Callicutt (12-8) carried a perfect into the sixth and Melissa Tullar homered to lead the Camels to a 6-2 win. Katie Baker (12-14) surrendered only a lead-off single in the night cap and Camise Patterson and Stephanie Jones hit home runs in an 8-0 victory.
Campbell (25-25) extended its win streak to four games heading into a break for final exams. The Camels complete the regular season with a three-game series May 1-2 at Presbyterian before hosting the Big South Championship May 7-10.
NC Central (16-25) has dropped 13 of its last 15 games on the year and fell to 0-17 all-time against the Camels.
Callicutt's perfect game in the opener ended when De'Onn Smith led off the sixth with her second home run of the year. Callicutt scattered four hits and allowed two runs with nine strikeouts to claim her second-straight victory.
Campbell took a 5-0 lead in the third. Tuller's two-run homer was the big blow, while Bailey Bjorson and Karsen Leonhardt had RBI singles and Katie Baker added a sacrifice fly.
After Central drew within 5-2, Campbell added an insurance run in the sixth when Camise Patterson and Ericka Nesbitt singled and moved up on a double steal. Stephanie Jones then lifted a sacrifice fly to right.
Dominique Wilson (6-11) allowed six runs on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts to suffer the loss.
In game two, Baker allowed a lead-off single to Casey Hargett, but she was caught stealing. Baker allowed only four other base runners on three walks and a hit batter, but struck out nine to earn the victory.
London Booker (9-14) gave up eight runs (six earned) on six hits with five walks and three strikeouts in four innings for the Eagles.
Camise Patterson led off the bottom of the first with her team-leading ninth home run of the season. Nesbitt reached on an error and eventually scored on a passed ball to give the Camels a 2-0 edge.
Nesbitt again reached base on an error to lead off the third, then scored on Jones' seventh home run of the year. Kerstine Womack later doubled in two runs to push the Camel advantage to 6-0.
Baker's two-out, two-run double in the fourth provided the final two runs for the Camels.
