LYNCHBURG, Va. - Evan Darm earned the gold medal in the men's 5,000m run and Jacob Kipserem broke the school record in the men's 3,000m steeplechase at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on Wednesday evening.
Darm's run of 14:53.04 topped his previous outdoor best in the event by more than 15 seconds and was the third-fastest run by a Camel this season. Kipserem crossed the line in 9:05.52 to break Morgan Timiney's record in the steeplechase set during the 2013 season.
The Camels will return to action tomorrow afternoon at Noon at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas, on the campus of Texas Tech.
Following is an event-by-event recap of Campbell's action from Wednesday's Liberty Twilight Qualifier.
Men's 100m Dash (Prelims)
DeAndre Douglas posted a season-best time of 11.15 in the preliminary heats, narrowly missing advancing to the finals with a 16th-place finish.
Women's 100m Dash (Prelims)
Sabina Allen advanced to the finals in the sprint after finishing eighth overall with a run of 12.40. Shenelle McKay also competed for Campbell, crossing the line in 12.88 to finish 17th.
Women's 100m Dash (Finals)
Allen turned in a performance of 12.44 and earned a seventh-place finish in the event.
Men's 200m Dash
DeAndre Douglas, Nate Kennedy and Jacob Carter represented the Camels in the sprint, taking 18th (22.72), 25th (23.34) and 26th (23.40), respectively.
Women's 200m Dash
Jocelyn Culbreath posted a personal-best time of 24.72 in the event to earn a sixth-place finish, while Asia Olds took 12th overall with a time of 25.23.
Men's 400m Dash
Nate Kennedy took 16th overall in the event with a time of 52.08, while Jacob Carter finished in 55.18 to place 21st.
Women's 400m Dash
Jocelyn Culbreath broke the tape with another personal-best finish in the 400m dash, finishing in 57.34 to take fifth place. Racheal Brown also competed in the event, finishing 16th overall with a run of 1:02.14.
Men's 800m Run
Michael Bedell was the lone competitor for Campbell, crossing the line in 2:01.84 to finish 18th overall.
Women's 800m Run
Kaelyn Yoder (2:25.03) and Brianna Meyrick (2:30.41) competed for Campbell, placing 18th and 22nd, respectively.
Men's 1,500m Run
Lawrence Kipkoech earned the silver medal in the mid-distance competition, finishing in 3:52.75. Evan Darm (12th, 4:02.01) and Amon Terer (13th, 4:02.04) earned back-to-back finishes, Eric Baldwin placed 21st in 4:06.51 and Morgan Timiney rounded out the Campbell contingent with a 30th-place finish in 4:13.74.
Men's 3,000m Steeplechase
Jacob Kipserem broke Morgan Timiney's two-year old school record in the steeplechase by just over four seconds, claiming the win with a time of 9:05.52.
Men's 5,000m Run
Evan Darm earned his first individual gold medal of the season, claiming victory with a time of 14:53.04. Anthony Hughes was up next, finishing fifth in 15:30.33, and Mason Holt crossed the line in 15:37.12 to place seventh overall.
Men's 4x400m Relay
The quartet of Lorne Jenkins, Eric Baldwin, Morgan Timiney and Michael Bedell placed fifth overall with a time of 3:28.96.
Men's High Jump
Davian Rhodes placed fifth overall after reaching a height of 6-6 (1.98m).
Women's High Jump
Shenelle McKay earned a tie for the silver medal in one of her signature events, clearing a height of 5-4.25 (1.63m).
Men's Long Jump
Lorne Jenkins earned a top-five finish, tying for fourth after reaching a distance of 22-10.5 (6.97m).
Women's Long Jump
Jaszlyn Jenkins reached a distance of 17-2 (5.23m) to match her personal-best mark in the event and earn a ninth-place finish.
Women's Triple Jump
Sabina Allen and Jaszlyn Jenkins posted back-to-back finishes in the event, with Allen placing fifth after a jump of 39-4.5 (12.00m) and Jenkins taking sixth with a personal-best leap of 38-8.25 (11.79m). Shenelle McKay also finished eighth after a mark of 37-8.75 (11.50m).
