BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell junior Cedric Mullins has been named a Big South Choice Hotels Baseball Co-Player of the Week.
Mullins, a Snellville, Ga. native, hit .474 (9-19) with six extra base hits, scoring five times while knocking in three. The junior was also a perfect 7-for-7 stealing bases on the week, nearly doubling his season total after coming into the week with 10.
He notched five doubles and a triple, leading off each game of the Presbyterian series with a double, another double, and a triple. He not only picked up a hit in each of the Camels' four wins on the week, but a double in each game, adding the triple on Saturday, and doubling twice in the series opener at PC.
Against the Blue Hose, Mullins hit .533 (8-for-15) with four doubles, a triple, three RBI and three runs, also going a perfect 7-for-7 on the base paths.
Mullins tallied a hit and scored twice in Campbell's 9-6 comeback win at Duke on Tuesday. The Snellville, Ga. native then started the PC series off with a 4-for-5 day in a 7-2 Campbell win, tallying two doubles a RBI and a run. The junior's final double of the week helped Campbell sweep PC, doubling in two in the top of the eighth to extend CU's lead. He also stole at least two bases in all three games of the series, including three on Friday.
For the year, Mullins hits .344 with 32 runs scored, 13 RBI, 11 doubles, seven triples and two home runs, stealing 17 bases.
Joining Mullins as co-player of the week is Coastal Carolina sophomore shortstop Michael Paez, who batted .571 (8-for-14) with eight runs, five RBI, one home run and three stolen bases last week.
Mullins' honor marks the Camels' fourth Big South Player of the Week plaudit this season. Heath Bowers was also named Big South Pitcher of the Week.
Campbell returns to Jim Perry Stadium, hosting in-state foes East Carolina and North Carolina Central in midweek nonconference play. The Camels welcome ECU to Buies Creek on Tuesday, followed by NCCU on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Camels return to Big South play this weekend, traveling to Liberty April 10-12. The series finale, Sunday at 4 p.m., will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
