BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell and North Carolina A&T split a softball doubleheader Wednesday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

In the opener, Camise Patterson hit her sixth home run of the year and Kerstine Womack drove in a pair of runs to lead Campbell (21-21) to a 6-1 victory.  A&T (12-20) claimed the nightcap 7-6.

Game one starter Julia Callicutt (10-6) allowed one unearned run over four innings, scattering three hits with no walks and three strikeouts.  Katie Baker tossed three shutout innings of one-hit ball with one walk and three Ks to record her second save.

The Camels jumped in front in the first when Camise Patterson and Ericka Nesbitt singled and moved up on a double steal.  Stephanie Jones' RBI groundout scored Patterson to give the Camels a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Womack's safety squeeze bunt scored pinch-runner Tori Griffin and Camise Patterson followed with a two-run blast to left center.

The Aggies tallied an unearned run in the fourth when Raven Gray reached on an error and eventually scored on Kimberly Brunson's RBI hit.

Campbell tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth when Brittany Bruce smacked a one-out double, Melissa Tullar and Bailey Bjorson walked, and Womack followed with a two-run single.

A&T starter Janika May (5-11) allowed six runs on seven hits with four walks and no strikeouts.

Camise Patterson and Womack finished with two hits apiece in game one for the Camels, while Brunson had two of A&T's four hits.

In the nightcap, the Aggies jumped in front in the first on Brunson's two-run homer.  However, the Camels tied the score in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles from Stephanie Jones and Chandler Patterson.

A&T tacked on four runs in the third on RBI hits from Syerra Askew and Alexiss Dominguez, but a two-run single by Maiven McKnight.

Campbell cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the frame when Ericka Nesbitt singled, stole second and scored on Jones' hit.

The Aggies added what proved to be the winning run in the top of the sixth when Raven Gray drew a one-out walk and later scored on Dasia Moore's single down the left field line.

Campbell cut the gap to one run in the bottom of the inning on RBI hits by Camise Patterson and Brittany Bruce and a pair of A&T errors.  However, with one out and the bases loaded, Melissa Tullar grounded into a one-two-three double play to end the threat.

McKnight (7-9) earned the win, allowing six runs (three earned) on 11 hits with two walks and one strikeout.  Camel starter Courtney Roberts (1-3) surrendered six runs (four earned) on seven hits with two walks and four Ks in three innings.

Brunson finished 3-of-4 with two RBI to lead the 11-hit A&T attack.  Jones went 3-of-4 with three RBI, while Nesbitt added a pair of singles for the Camels.

Campbell returns to Big South Conference play this weekend at Winthrop with a single game Friday (6:00 p.m.) and doubleheader Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
