Kolat travels to 2015 Pan American Junior Championship with Team USA

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Wrestling head coach Cary Kolat traveled to Havana, Cuba, May 6-8, as an assistant coach with Team USA for the 2015 Pan American Junior Championships. The team garnered a second place finish in both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions.

"We had some competitive guys, and hopefully we'll continue to do that," Kolat said. "It's important for the United States to start developing future world team members and future Olympians.

"This event is the first step in the process and it was nice to be part of that trip. Having been there before, it was good to help."

Team USA garnered 60 points in the freestyle championships, finishing runner-up to Cuba, who earned 69 total points; Venezuela tallied 41 points for a third place finish.

The United States earned three gold and two silver medals in the freestyle event.

In the Greco-Roman competition, Team USA garnered seven total medals: one gold and silver apiece, and five bronze.

The team tallied 65 total points, trailing only first-place Cuba with 73 points; Venezuela garnered a third place finish with 54 points.
