BRADENTON, FLA. – After two lightning delays, play in the opening round of the NCAA women's golf championship was halted by darkness Friday with half of the 24-team field still on the course.
Campbell sits in a tie with NC State and Purdue for 10th place at 14-over-par with 10 to 13 holes completed. No.-13 Stanford (3-over) owned a two-stroke edge over 4th-ranked Duke, which finished the day at 5-over 293. Baylor (+7) is third, followed by top-ranked Southern Cal (9-over 297) and No.-5 Arizona (300).
Sophomore Nadine White was Campbell's leader at 2-over-par through 11 holes and tied for 23rd place. The native of Brisbane, Australia had two birdies and four bogeys on Friday. Senior Brooke Bellomy and junior Tahnia Ravnjak were tied for 32nd place at 3-over, while sophomore Louise Latorre was tied for 74th at 6-over par. Senior Lisbeth Brooks stood 7-over through 13 holes and tied for 85th.
Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford was the individual leader at 4-under par through 12 holes when play was stopped. Emma Talley of Alabama was second at 3-under through 15 on the par-72, 6381-yard Concession Golf Club layout.
The first round is scheduled to resume Saturday at 8:30 a.m., followed immediately by the second round. Following Sunday's third round, the field will be cut to 15 teams and nine individuals. After Monday's fourth round, the top eight teams will advance to match play to determine the NCAA team champion.
The final round of stroke play, plus both days of match play will be televised live by Golf Channel. Live scoring is available at NCAA.com.
