DURHAM, N.C. - Lynette Akai earned a bronze medal in the women's 400m dash as Campbell competed on the opening day of the Duke Twilight Meet at Morris Williams Stadium on Wednesday evening.
In addition to Akai's performance, Lorne Jenkins grabbed a top-five finish on the men's side in the long jump, taking fifth place overall.
Campbell will continue competition at the Duke Twilight Meet on Thursday afternoon, with the action kicking off at 3:00 p.m. with the men's javelin throw. The meet will conclude at approximately 8:45 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
Following Thursday's action, Campbell will send competitors to the UNF East Region Preview on Friday in Jacksonville, Fla. This week's pair of meets are the Camels' final tuneups ahead of next week's Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by High Point.
Following is an event-by-event recap of Campbell's action from the opening day of the Duke Twilight Meet hosted by Duke University.
Women's 100m Dash (Prelims)
Sabina Allen was the lone competitor for the Camels in the sprint, placing fifth in her heat and 19th overall after breaking the tape in 12.44.
Men's 400m Dash
Michael Bedell, Fabian Jarrett and Jacob Carter all finished just over two seconds apart en route to consecutive finishes. Bedell took 20th in 52.20, Jarrett placed 21st in 52.86 and Carter crossed the line in 54.29 to place 22nd overall.
Women's 400m Dash
Lynette Akai turned in the top performance of the day for Campbell, earning the bronze medal in one of her signature events with a time of 54.91. Racheal Brown also competed for the Camels, finishing in 57.90 to place 18th overall.
Men's 1,500m Run
Morgan Timiney's time of 3:52.61 was good for a 19th-place finish as Campbell lone representative in the mid-distance run.
Men's Long Jump
Lorne Jenkins narrowly missed setting a new personal-best in the long jump, placing fifth overall with a performance of 23-8.75 (7.23m). Taylor Swanson also competed for the Camels, taking 16th after covering a distance of 19-11.75 (6.09m).
Women's Long Jump
Sabina Allen led the Campbell duo in the jumps event, matching her outdoor personal-best mark with a leap of 17-11 (5.46m) to finish 12th overall. Jaszlyn Jenkins's jump of 16-9.25 (5.11m) was good for a 19th-place finish.
Men's Discus Throw
Sharaj Prince picked up a top-10 finish for the Camels, taking 10th overall in the throws event with a heave of 120-9 (36.81m).
