CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jacob Kipserem and Lilla Juhasz have been honored as the Big South Male and Female Track Athletes of the Week as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
The duo are the second and third Campbell athletes honored during the outdoor season. Lawrence Kipkoech claimed a pair of Track Athlete of the Week awards on April 1 and April 22 after breaking school records in the 5,000m and 10,000m runs.
Both Kipserem and Juhasz set new Campbell all-time best marks last week, with Kipserem rising to the top of the charts in the 3,000m steeplechase and Juhasz topping her own mark in the 100m hurdles.
At the Liberty Twilight Qualifier last Wednesday, Kipserem turned in a time of 9:05.52, claiming the gold medal in the event and breaking Morgan Timiney's two-year old record in the event by just over four seconds. Kipserem's time currently ranks third among Big South athletes and 51st in the NCAA East Region this season, just outside the top-48 qualifying mark for regionals.
Juhasz topped her own mark in the 100m hurdles for the second time in the month of April, breaking the tape in 13.29 at the Red Raider Open last Thursday. The sophomore had previously turned in a mark of 13.50 at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting before setting the new record. Juhasz's time is the best in the Big South this season by three-tenths of a second and is 15th in the East Region, well within the qualifying contingent.
The Camels continue their action on the final day of the Duke Twilight Meet this afternoon before sending athletes to the UNF East Region Preview on Friday. The 2015 Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set to begin next Thursday, May 14, on the campus of High Point.
