FLOURTOWN, PA. – Campbell graduate Ben Polland qualified for the PGA Championship Wednesday by finishing as runner-up in the 48th PGA Professional National Championship at the Wissahickon Course at The Philadelphia Cricket Club.

Matt Dobyns of Glen Head, New York, who birdied the 18th hole to finish at 3-under-par 279, captured his second National Championship in four years.  Polland, who is a pro at Deepdale Golf Club in  Manhasset, N.Y., finished one stroke back at 2-under.

In just his first PGA Professional National Championship, Polland earned one of 20 qualifying places for the 97th PGA Championship, Aug. 13-16, at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin.

At 24 years, 11 months, Polland was the third-youngest contestant in the 311-player field. His 3-under 67 Monday at Wissahickon matched the low round of the Championship.

A graduate of Campbell University's PGA Golf Management University Program, Polland played a vital role as his Campbell squad won the 2012 PGA Jones Cup, the annual 36-hole Championship featuring PGA Golf Management University programs from around the country, by 17 strokes.

A native of Bloomington, Minn., and graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Polland also represented Campbell's varsity golf team during The Match Play Championship in Feb. 2011.
