CLEMSON, S.C. - Redshirt sophomore Matthew Mozynski kept a clean sheet in the second half, but two first-half strikes from No. 11 Clemson dealt Campbell a 2-0 setback in its preseason finale on Thursday evening.
Thursday's match was played on Clemson's practice field due to the ongoing field renovations at Riggs Field. The Tigers posted a 7-2-0 regular season mark on their home field during the 2014 season.
The Camels finish with a 1-1 mark in the preseason with both matches coming against ACC opponents. Goals from Sam Butts and Bradley Farias gave Campbell a 2-1 victory over NC State in Buies Creek last Saturday evening.
For the second straight game, Nick Hensley and Mozynski split time in net, with Hensley drawing the start against the Tigers. Mozynski finished the preseason with 90 scoreless minutes in goal, shutting out the Wolfpack in the first half last Saturday before keeping Clemson off the board in the second frame on Thursday.
Clemson took a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the contest as Kyle Fisher found the back of the net on a header, giving the Tigers an early advantage.
Just before the halftime break, Clemson added to the scoreline on a strike from the top of the penalty box, carrying a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Following the intermission, Mozynski kept the Tigers off the board for the remainder of the contest. The redshirt sophomore, one of only 10 players in Campbell history with triple-digit saves in a single season, stonewalled the 2014 ACC Tournament champions, but the Camels could not break through over the final 45 minutes.
Campbell will kick off its 2015 regular season campaign with a trip to Davidson next Friday, Aug. 28, at 7:00 p.m. The Camels will be seeking to avenge a 3-1 setback against the Wildcats in Buies Creek last season.
