BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After completing his first collegiate tournament at 5-under-par, Ray Kraivixien of Campbell University has been named The Crons Brand Big South Conference men's golf freshman of the week.
A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Kraivixien (71-70-70—141) finished his inaugural collegiate event with 12 birdies and 36 pars to tie for 14th place in the 90-golfer field. He played the par-3 holes at 2-under and was 6-under on the par-5 holes on the par-72, 6920-yard True Blue layout. Kraivixien made 14 pars, 3 birdies and one bogey Tuesday.
Kraivixien led the Campbell men to a sixth-place showing (288-286-282—856) in the 18-team field, topping fellow Big South opponents Radford (858) and Gardner-Webb (867) in the process.
With a men's and women's combined score of 9-over par, Campbell defeated runner-up Old Dominion (+14) by five strokes. In addition to this year's triumph, Campbell won the combined program challenge in 2011, 2012 and 2013 before finishing as runner-up to ODU last season.
The Camels continue their fall schedule Sept. 20-22 with the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point in Dafuskie Island, S.C.
