CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference office announced Tuesday afternoon the 2014-2015 Team Sportsmanship Awards. Of the 11 schools in the conference, Campbell women's tennis was chosen as the tennis program that showed the best sportsmanship throughout the season in competition.
"It is always nice to be recognized by your peers and this is certainly testimony to the girls," said head coach David Johnson. "We didn't quite have the year in terms of results, that we hoped for, but I know in the classroom they have done very well. To have this reflection in terms of their temperament, their attitude and their outlook is very pleasing. I am really happy for them and I hope that we can once again be in that position [this year], but add more victories."
Women's tennis is the fourth Campbell team to be awarded with the sportsmanship team laurel. Men's soccer received the award in 2011, softball in 2012 and women's lacrosse in 2013.
According to the voting guidelines set by the Big South conference office, "the overall winner is determined on a system that recognizes the highest percentage of the maximum points an institution is capable of receiving for each team award. The team awards were voted on by Big South student-athletes following each conference championship."
Liberty University won the Institutional Sportsmanship award by receiving 36.20 percent of the votes. They also claimed the award in seven times for individual teams.
