HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Campbell Fighting Camels fell in five sets as they opened up their conference schedule at High Point. Four athletes' record double-doubles as the Camels move to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in the Big South.
Rebecca Ramirez (21-16), Mary Crema (11-16) and Summer Schuitema (19-14) all recorded double-doubles in assists and digs for the Camels. Katelyn Layden also recorded a double-double though hers came in the form of 10 kills and 13 digs.
Set One
- Rachel Harty lead the attack with three kills for a team total 10 in the first set
- Ramirez dished out five of the teams 10 assists
- Amelia Armstrong lead the defense with five digs and Layden was close behind with four as the team totaled 16
- The Camels fell 25-23 in set one where there were nine ties and five lead changes
Set Two
- Campbell maintained control from early in the set after taking the lead 3-2 on an attack error by Jordan Hefner and never looked back
- Six Camels each recorded two kills apiece as the team totaled 12 for the set
- Ramirez again distributed the ball six times to help record 11 team assists
- Campbell amassed 18 digs in the second set with Crema pacing the defense with seven
- CU won 25-23 in set two over the Panthers
Set Three
- The Camels trailed early in the third set tying the game four times before they gained control of the set and ran away with the score
- Of the 14 kills recorded by the team, Harty and Armstrong had three each and three other Camels had two
- Schuitema lead the assist column in the third set with six of the teams 14
- Ramirez dug the ball up six times to help the defense earn 17 digs
- The Orange and Black won 25-19 in the third set over HPU
Set Four
- Armstrong was the offensive force in the fourth set amassing seven of the teams thirteen kills
- Crema dished out six assists to set the offensive pace while Ramirez again lead the defense with six digs
- High Point topple the Camels in set four 25-22 forcing the match to a fifth set
Set Five
- The Camels recorded seven kills but hit only .158 while the Panthers knocked down nine kills and hit .471
- Schuitema lead with four assists and Layden and Crema each had two digs as the team recorded six in the fifth set
- Campbell fell 15-10 in the fifth set and lost a hard fought match
The Camels will return to action next week Oct. 2-3 as they head to South Carolina to play Charleston Southern on Friday at 7 p.m. and Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m.
