BUIES CREEK, N.C. --- Salina Virola scored 20 points to lead Presbyterian to a 69-45 victory at Campbell Tuesday night. RaeChaun Edwards led the Lady Camels (7-10, 2-6 BSC) with 10 points and a game-high six rebounds.
Jessica Pone also tallied 10 points while Bria Emanuel pulled down five rebounds. MaKala Rouse scored five points while Amanda Coffer, CU's leading scorer, was held to just four points.
Aianna Kelly added 12 points for Presbyterian (10-7, 6-2) while Cortney Storey and Rebecca Walker each tallied seven points. Kelly pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
It was a fast start for the Lady Camels, scoring the first seven points of the game and holding the Blue Hose scoreless for the first four minutes. A Rouse three and an Edwards layup capped another 7-0 spurt to give CU its lone double-digit advantage of the game at 14-4 with 2:54 to play in the first.
PC responded with the next 10 points over the next two and a half minutes before Krystal Mangum hit a jumper at the buzzer to give CU a 12-10 lead after one period. The Lady Camels shot a blistering 75 percent in the opening frame but committed six turnovers.
Presbyterian took its first lead of the game at 17-16 with a three pointer from Virola in the opening possession of the second period. The Blue Hose continued their hot shooting with three-straight three pointers in the second and held a 27-20 advantage with 3:40 remaining before halftime.
A Sarah Smith layup broke up a four minute scoring drought for Campbell but another Virola trey pushed the Blue Hose advantage to 30-22 with just over a minute remaining in the second. Pone buried a three with ten seconds to play in the second. However, a Storey jumper at the buzzer sent PC to the halftime locker room with a 32-25 advantage.
Presbyterian took its first double-digit lead of the game at 36-25 a minute and a half into the third period. The Blue Hose opened the third with an 8-0 run before an Edwards three cut the PC advantage to 44-30 with 5:38 on the clock. The lead grew to 20 on an Allie Wagner three as the Blue Hose owned a 50-30 advantage heading to the fourth period.
Five-straight points for Pone cut the deficit to 50-35 with 8:27 to play in the game. However, the PC lead was back to 20 at 58-38 with 4:30 on the clock. Alyshia Allison and Jewell Yarborough recorded points in the final four minutes of action, but the Lady Camels only could get back within 18 of the lead before Presbyterian took home the victory.
Campbell will head out on the road for the next two games starting on Saturday at Winthrop. Tipoff in Rock Hill, S.C. is set for 1 p.m.
