BUIES CREEK, N.C. --- Three Runnin' Bulldogs scored in double-figures as Gardner-Webb earned a 70-35 victory over Campbell on Monday night in the final game of a three-game homestand at Gore Arena. Amanda Coffer led CU (6-7, 1-3 BSC) with 11 points, her ninth double-figure effort of the season.
Jessica Pone tallied seven points while Bria Emanuel had a team high seven rebounds. Krystal Mangum scored four points while MaKala Rouse pulled down five boards. The Lady Camels were plagued by 16 turnovers and was held to just 25 percent shooting from the field.
Candace Brown and Tierra Huntsman each scored a game-high 15 points for Gardner-Webb (8-6, 2-2) while Alexus Hill tallied 10. Olivia Parker had a game-high 11 rebounds while scoring nine points. The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 50.0 percent from three-point range and tallied 10 steals.
GWU jumped out to an early 7-2 lead thanks to a quick 5-0 spurt three minutes into the contest. Following short scoring droughts for both sides midway through the period, Coffer cut a six point deficit in half with a three pointer with 14 seconds to play in the first. However, Hill nailed a three at the buzzer to give GWU a 19-13 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs opened the second with a quick three pointer from Huntsman to increase its lead to nine. An Emanuel layup cut the deficit to five at 24-19 with six minutes remaining in the frame.
The Gardner-Webb lead grew to double-digits for the first time in the game at 31-21 following a Kiera Currie free throw with 2:33 remaining in the second period. The Lady Camels were held scoreless for the final 5:12 of the first half as GWU took a 33-21 advantage at halftime. CU was plagued by eight first-half turnovers.
Huntsman opened the third with a three pointer in nearly the identical spot and time of her second period opening shot. The Bulldogs scored seven of the first eight points of the frame to take a 40-22 lead with seven minutes on the clock. GWU held CU without a field goal in the third and finished the period on an 8-0 spurt to take a 52-23 lead after three stanzas.
The lead grew to 28 before Campbell broke a 16-minute drought without a field goal with a Qua Brown jumper at nine minutes remaining in the fourth period. The Lady Camels scored six of the next eight points following the brown jumper, but trailed 62-31 with 4:34 to play.
Following a Coffer jumper, GWU scored the game's final four points in the last two minutes to claim the wire-to-wire victory.
Campbell will hit the road for the next two games starting on Saturday in Farmville, Virginia against Longwood. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
