SWANNANOA, N.C. – Campbell junior Joan Maritim was named the 2016 Big South Runner of the Year after taking home the women's individual title at the Big South XC Championships. She completed the 5K course in 17:18.03 to set a new course record at the Asheville Christian Academy. The women's team took third overall in the meet, matching their best team finish since joining the Big South in 2011.

The Camels finished with three all-conference runners at the meet. After Maritim, senior Amina Alvarez Barkane came in next for the Camels, finishing sixth overall with a mark of 18:54.57. Freshman Camel Lize Botha finished the meet in 12th place with a time of 19:22.75, posting the third-fastest time for a freshman at the meet. In addition, sophomore Roshae Jackson was named to All-Academic Team.

"It was great to see Joan take the win, then have Amina and Lize in the top-12 for all-conference," said head coach Michael Kelly. "I wish we could've had a couple more all-conference athletes, but I can't complain with a third-place team finish today. I believe that's our best finish in school history."

Sophomores Heidi Tuszkiewicz and Ali Bowen completed the top-five for Campbell, finishing 28th and 30th, respectively. Crossing the line next for Campbell was Roshae Jackson, coming in 37th place. Freshmen Madeline Fitch, Aimee Fish, and Jade Baldwin all finished within 40 seconds of each other to round out the competitors for Campbell.
