RALEIGH, N.C. – Thomas La Morte tied for fifth place and Campbell finished fifth on the team leader board after Tuesday's final round of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate men's golf tournament at Lonnie Poole Golf Club.

A junior from Demarest, N.J., La Morte concluded the event at 2-under-par 211 (75-68-68) on the par-71, 7358-yard Lonnie Poole layout.  Over the 54-hole event, La Morte made 16 birdies (six on Tuesday), second only to medalist Timothy Conover of East Carolina (17).  He played the par five holes at 3-under, was 1-over on the par four layouts and even on the par threes.

La Morte's back-to-back 68s in the second and third rounds marked the lowest 18-hole scores by a Campbell player at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate since the Camels began playing at Lonnie Poole in 2010.  His 54-hole total bettered the previous Camel best mark (214) set by Vaita Guillaume at the 2010 event.

The fifth-place showing marked La Morte's fifth career top-10 finish and was his best of the year.  His 211 total was the second-best 54-hole effort of his collegiate career, surpassed only by his 8-under 208 (66-68-74) at the season-opening Golfweek Program Challenge.

Led by Conover, who shot 67-67-67 and finished at 12-under 201, East Carolina (271-279-287—837) claimed team honors by three strokes over Kennesaw State (278-277-285—840).  Host NC State was third (287-279-283—849), followed by Maryland (286-287-284—857) and Campbell (290-279-292—861) in the 17-school field.

After sitting out Campbell's first two events of the season in order to prepare for and participate in last month's World Amateur Team Championship, Gaston Bertinotti tied for 20th at Lonnie Poole at 2-over 215 (74-69-72).  He made 11 birdies overall, including five in Tuesday's final round.

Campbell sophomore Jesper Svensson tied for 26th (68-72-76—216) and made 11 birdies during the event.  Freshman Max Theodorakis had 39 pars (tied for second in the 90-golfer field) and finished in a tie for 38th overall at 6-over 219 (73-70-76).  Sophomore Ray Kraivixien tied for 64th (75-74-77—226).

As a team, the Camels made 51 birdies, second only to NC State's 55, and 161 pars (eighth). CU finished fifth in par-3 (+7), par-4 (+21) and par-5 (-6) scoring.

Campbell continues its fall schedule Oct. 23-25 at the Old Dominion OBX Collegiate at Kilmarlic GC in Powells Point, N.C., where CU will seek to defend its 2015 team title.
