CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time this season, junior Joan Maritim has been named the Big South Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Maritim is coming off her first career first-place finish in the Asheville XC Challenge. She dominated the women's 5K, completing the course in 17:46.27 and defeating the next closest runner by 47 seconds.  It was the third-fastest 5K of her career.

"Joan had no problem securing the individual win," head coach Michael Kelly said after the meet. "She looked extremely fit and in control the entire race."
