CLINTON, S.C. --- Presbyterian hit 10 three pointers to help claim a 64-54 victory over Campbell on Saturday in Big South Conference women's basketball action. Summer Price led the way for the Lady Camels (10-15, 5-11 BSC) with 14 points, her third-straight double-figure scoring effort.
Amanda Coffer finished with 12 points, but CU's leading scorer was limited to just 11 minutes of action with foul trouble. Caroline Bowns added six points off the bench with six free throws in the fourth period. RaeChaun Edwards dished out five assists while Price pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
A pair of free throws by Bowns cut the Presbyterian (15-10, 11-5) lead to eight at 57-49 with 4:34 left to play. Janie Miles answered with a three to break up a two and a half minute scoring drought to increase the lead back to double-digits.
Brianna Cribb and Bowns converted three free throws as the Lady Camels drew back within eight of the lead at 60-52 with 2:36 on the clock. After Miles missed a three on the other end, Bowns' three attempt couldn't fall but CU got another chance to cut into the lead after the ball went out of bounds off a PC player. In the ensuing inbounds, Krystal Mangum caught the ball was stripped by Allie Wagner, who was then fouled by Hannah Long.
Wagner hit a pair of free throws to increase the PC advantage back to 10 with 1:37 remaining. Brianna Cribb hit a layup with just under a minute to play but Courtney Storey answered with a layup of her own to make the final tally 64-54.
Salina Virola led all scorers with 17 points for the Blue Hose. Taylor Petty tallied 13 points and Aianna Kelly fell just short of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Virola was six-of-nine from the floor and hit all three three-pointers she attempted.
The Lady Camels raced out to a quick 7-0 lead and held the Blue Hose scoreless for the first five minutes of the contest. Jessica Pone hit a jumper with 4:03 left to play in the first period but those would be the final points scored by Campbell in the opening frame. PC scored six points during the drought before the horn sounded to end the first with the score tied 12-12.
Presbyterian took its first lead of the game on a Rebecca Walker three a minute into the second period. The Blue Hose didn't surrender the lead for the remainder of the contest as an 8-0 increased their advantage to 20-12 with 7:04 left in the second.
CU responded with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 22-20 with 3:59 on the clock. A 5-0 PC spurt was stopped by a Price trey and later she hit a layup with 37 seconds left in the period to draw CU within four of the lead at halftime (29-25).
Price opened the third with a three in the first possession as the Presbyterian lead was cut to one. However, the Blue Hose scored the next nine points as CU was held without a bucket for five minutes. Coffer scored the next seven points for Campbell but PC traded those buckets and held a 46-35 lead with 3:14 on the clock.
Both sides struggled offensively at the end of the third with no points being scored for a two minute stretch. Price hit a pair of free throws to cut the PC lead to nine with eight seconds remaining in the frame, but Kelly closed out the third with a layup at the buzzer to send the Blue House to the fourth with a 50-39 lead.
After scoring the first five points of the fourth period, Presbyterian took its largest lead of the game at 55-39 with 8:27 left to play. Coffer answered with five-straight points to cut the lead back to 11. However, she was whistled for her fifth foul with 7:17 on the clock and was forced to watch the remainder of the game from the bench.
The Lady Camels will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Charleston Southern in a key game with Big South Championship seeding implications. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
