SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Nathan Kraisser was named the Southern Conference wrestler of the month for his performance during the month of January as announced by the conference office.
Kraisser went a perfect 8-0 in duals through the month of January. All but one dual resulted in bonus points as he now has 63 dual points on the season to lead all Camels. He recorded 41 points in January alone. Kraisser also leads the team in major decisions (7), tech falls (6) and pins (6).
The redshirt-junior from Ellicott City, Maryland was named the Arby's SoCon Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 13, after he went 5-0 from Jan. 6-13.
Kraisser started off the month by defeating Jacob Grigg from Appalachian State in an 18-0 tech fall. He followed that performance by going 4-0 at the Virginia Duals on Jan. 8-9.
At the Duals, Kraisser faced Alex Dalusio from Arizona State and defeated the Sun Devil as he pinned him with just 28 seconds remaining on the clock. Dalusio became the second Sun Devil to fall to the 133-pound Campbell grappler.
He picked up win number two at the Duals after he defeated the #8 ranked Emilio Saavedra from Old Dominion in a 13-5 major decision.
Vince Rodriguez from George Mason gave the best fight of the month holding Kraisser to just a 5-4 decision. Kraisser wrapped up the weekend by pinning Caleb Smith from The Citadel in 3:35.
The Camels earned their first win in 21 duals, defeating the Keydets from VMI, 22-17, on Jan. 22, in Lexington, Va. Kraisser helped the team by earning bonus points for his pin over Bennie Pachello with 14 seconds left on the clock.
Kraisser's next win came in a rematch with The Citadel's Caleb Smith. Kraisser won by a 21-4 tech fall over the Bulldog as he racked up five takedowns, two reversals, two-point and four-point near falls and the point for riding time. Campbell picked up its second win in a row in a close 19-16 decision over The Citadel.
In his most recent dual, Kraisser took on Tyler Zeigler (GWU) and pinned him in 4:26. Entering the dual both grapplers were undefeated in the SoCon at 133 pounds and Kraisser emerged the victory to remain the only undefeated 133-pound wrestler in the SoCon.
