BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell women's tennis fell to East Carolina 5-2, Friday afternoon at the James R. Nisbet Tennis Center. The Camels move to 3-1 while the Pirates improve to 1-2.
ECU got the early lead over Campbell as they won two of the three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point. Castro/Veinsteina took down the Muad Mrad/Ana Maria Ortiz duo while LaDuca/Ruiz defeated Georgina Segarra/Nina Asanin 7-5. The doubles No. 2 match did not finish after LaDuca and Ruiz won the second doubles match.
Two Camels picked up wins in the singles matches as Irina Karangozishvili won by default after Nicole DaLuca withdrew due to injury. Ortiz was the only other Campbell player to win her singles match. She toppled Michelle Castro in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
Campbell women's tennis returns to the courts on Feb. 10 as it travels to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the 49ers in a midweek dual. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
