HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Campbell rallied from a 19-point third period deficit and RaeChaun Edwards hit the game-winning three with four seconds left in Campbell's thrilling 68-65 victory at High Point on Tuesday night. Edwards finished with a game-high 22 points while Summer Price tallied 19.
Amanda Coffer scored 11 for Campbell (12-16, 7-12 BSC), who won its second-straight game. Price pulled down a game-high seven rebounds while scoring in double figures for the sixth-straight game. MaKala Rouse finished with nine points and dished out a game-high six assists.
High Point (11-17, 10-9) took a 49-28 advantage off an Emma Bockrath jumper with 5:29 to play in the third period. CU began its comeback with seven-straight points after Bockrath's bucket. Later, a Bockrath free throw gave HPU a 54-43 advantage with 38 seconds left in the third.
However, a Price layup at 20 seconds on the clock drew CU back within nine of the lead (54-45) heading to the fourth period. It was the first time the lead was single digits since midway through the first.
Price's layup kicked off a 16-0 fourth period run for the Lady Camels, who led for the first time since it was 5-4. Kat Harris broke up a six minute Panther scoring drought to stop the CU run, and Lindsey Edwards hit a jumper with 3:00 minutes left to play that tied the game at 63-63. A pair of Harris free throws made it a 6-0 run for HPU, who led 65-63 with 2:03 remaining.
With just under a minute to play and the score still the same, an Edwards steal set up a CU fastbreak and Price was fouled and sent to the line for a pair of free throws. She hit both shots and then blocked Bockrath's free throw on the other end of the court.
Out of a timeout, Edwards held possession with the clock winding down before hitting the clutch three with four seconds on the clock to put CU up 68-65. The Panthers had one final chance, but Harris' attempt at the game-tying three was blocked by Rouse as time expired to cap Campbell's improbable comeback.
The Lady Camels shot a sizzling 55.6 percent from the field (15-for-27) and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-10) in the second half. CU held HPU to just 30.0 percent shooting from the field (9-for-30) in the second half and forced five Panther turnovers.
Bockrath led three High Point players in double-figures with 20 points while Harris tallied 19 and Kaylah Keys finished with 11. Bockrath, Shea Morgan and Aariel Allen each had a team-high six rebounds.
Four early points for Edwards gave Campbell a 5-3 lead three minutes into the contest. However, the Panthers followed it up with 10-straight points to take a 13-5 advantage midway through the period. Coffer broke up the long scoring drought, but HPU finished the first period a 19-1 run to take a 22-6 lead after the opening frame.
After High Point went up by 20 early in the second period, its largest lead of the game, CU responded with a 7-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 26-13 with 7:09 on the clock. The run went to 9-0 before a Harris three broke up the scoring drought.
Later in the stanza, HPU increased its advantage back to 16 before a 5-0 spurt for the Lady Camels, capped by an Edwards three, drew CU back within 11 at 35-24. HPU added a pair of buckets in the final two minutes of the first half to take a 39-25 lead at the break.
The Lady Camels will wrap up the 2015-16 regular season on Saturday night when they play host to Radford at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game, Campbell will honor its three seniors; Edwards, Jessica Pone and Jewell Yarborough, who will be playing their final game at Gore Arena.
