Camels drop second round matches at 2016 NCAA Championship

NEW YORK CITY, N.C. - Nathan Kraisser falls to No. 1 Nahshon Garrett and Ville Heino falls to No. 3 Victor Avery in the second session of the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Kraisser moves on to the consolation bracket on Friday morning while Heino's time at the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships came to a close.

Heino again started the wrestling action in his second pigtail match of the day. His opponent the No. 3 Avery from Edinboro was upset in round one by Joe Ariola (Buffalo) in a 7-5 decision.

The two grapplers sized each other up in the beginning but Avery earned the first points in a two-point takedown. Heino earned an escape but shortly after Avery earned his second takedown of the match. With less than 30 seconds, remaining Heino got an escape to climb within two as the period ended (4-2).

Starting the second period, Heino chose down and Avery used his advantage to rack up riding time and earn the two-point nearfall pushing the gap to four points (6-2) heading into the third.

Heino had the top position starting the third and cut some of the Avery's riding time, but the Edinboro grappler got the escape as the match came to a close. Avery earned one point for a riding time of 2:27 to win the bout in an 8-2 decision.

Kraisser had to face the No. 1 Garrett from Cornell in his second match of the day. The Camel gave up a takedown to the Big Red grappler but got an escape putting the match score at 2-1.

After circling Kraisser went in on the fake by Garrett and he used the move to his advantage to cradle the Camel and pin him in just 1:39.

Kraisser moves on to the consolation bracket and will face the winner of consolation match 276, Gary Wayne Harding (OKST) and Robert Deutsch (Rider) on Friday in Round three with matches starting at 11 a.m.
