Jamie Corti named new women's soccer assistant coach

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell women's soccer head coach Stuart Horne has announced the hiring of Jamie Corti to join his staff as an assistant coach, effective immediately.

"I'm looking forward to working alongside Stuart and (associate head coach) Samar (Azem)," Corti said on joining Campbell. "I have had the opportunity to know both of them, personally and professionally, for a long time. Their vision for this program, and their qualities as people and coaches are just a couple of the things I am excited about being a part of. They have already done an incredible job in a short amount of time and I cannot wait get started and continue to build on what is already here."

Prior to her coming to Campbell, Corti served as an assistant coach at the University of Central Florida since June 2013. The Knights made the NCAA tournament each year during her tenure in Orlando, including a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2014 season.

As a member of the UCF staff, Corti helped the Knights appear in their ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament, 20th overall appearance, and host their first round match. In the 2014 season, she helped the Knights to their first undefeated conference record since the 1999 season. The team also won the American Athletic Conference, the first team in UCF history to do so. The team had three player of the year honors from the conference and won a school record 18 games. Also during 2014, she earned her NSCAA GK level 1 and NSCAA Diploma.

"I was extremely fortunate to work with Tiffany Sahaydak at UCF," Corti stated on her time at UCF. "During my time there we accomplished a lot on the field, but more importantly, I learned a tremendous amount from one of the best coaches and leaders in the profession. I am thankful for the opportunity to return to North Carolina and continue to grow professionally, while working with a group of amazing young women who are eager to learn and develop."

Prior to joining the UCF staff, Corti spent two seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University as a graduate assistant where she helped the team record 13 shutouts and boast the third best goals allowed and goals against average in the CAA in 2010. She returned to VCU in 2012 as an assistant coach after a year as an assistant coach at her alma mater, UNC Greensboro. During the 2012 season, she helped the Rams to a 12-5-5 record and an Atlantic 10 Championship game appearance.

Corti played collegiately at UNC Greensboro from 2004-08. During her time as a Spartan, the team captured four Southern Conference championships, including a perfect conference record for three of them. The team also made the NCAA tournament twice during that span. As a starter at center defender, the Spartans boasted a 44-4-4 record in conference play. In 2007 and 2008, she was a team captain and named team MVP. She was also a first-team all-SoCon selection during those two seasons.

Following the 2007 season, NSCAA and Soccer Buzz named her to the third-team all-region for her outstanding performance on a backline that allowed 0.86 goals-against per game during the 2007 campaign. During her final three years, she started 65-of-66 games, allowing just 0.92 goals-against, including 33 shutouts.

"Samar and I could not be more excited to have Jamie join the coaching staff here at Campbell University," Horne said. "Jamie's outstanding playing career at UNCG and her coaching success working with some of the top coaches and programs in the country is going to be a tremendous benefit to our players and the program. The determination, competitiveness, and drive that Jamie will bring are going to help bring Campbell women's soccer to the next level."

Corti was born in Florence, Italy and her family relocated to Apex, N.C. prior to her high school career, where she was an all-state defender at Apex High School.
