BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After matching the school record for most strokes below par in a round, Nadine White of Campbell University has been named Big South Conference women's golfer of the week. It is the fourth such honor of the season for the junior from Brisbane Australia.
White shot a 5-under-par 67 to tie her collegiate career low round Tuesday and finished in a tie for seventh (78-68-67—213) – best among Big South players in the field – on the individual leader board at the Briar's Creek Invitational.
In a field that included eight teams ranked among Golfstat's top 50, No.-54 Campbell (302-290-289—881) finished in a tie for 10th place with Wisconsin in the 18-team event. The Camels finished in front of three Big Ten Conference schools, including No.-30 Michigan State, and a pair of ACC members (Virginia Tech and Boston College).
White tied the school record for most strokes below par in a single round (5) set by Michelle Koh at the 2010 Palmetto Intercollegiate and equaled eight times.
Her score of 9-under 135 over the last two rounds was the lowest consecutive round total turned in by a Camel player since Tahnia Ravnjak shot 69-66 over the final two rounds of the 2013 Golfweek Program Challenge on a par-71 layout.
Her 67 tied for the second-lowest score in school history behind Koh and Tahnia Ravnjak, both of whom shot 66 on par-71 courses.
On Tuesday, the lone blemish on White's scorecard was a bogey on the par-four 12th; her third hole of the day. From there on in she made five birdies and 10 pars to finish the even at 3-under 213 (78-68-67). She was one of only 10 players in the 93-golfer field to finish in red numbers on the par-72, 6036-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek layout.
In posting her fourth top-10 finish of the season, White played the par-3 holes at 1-under, was 2-over on the par four layouts and 4-under on the par-fives. Her first collegiate ace came in Monday afternoon's second round. The junior had 12 birdies over the 54-hole event, 11 over the last two rounds.
After finishing Monday morning's opening round at 6-over 78, White had five birdies and an ace to highlight her second 18 holes. Her hole-in-one came on the par-three, 141-yard 15th hole. The junior from Brisbane, Australia finished her day with 21 pars plus six birdies and played the par-three holes even.
White lowered her stroke average to 73.5 on the season, second-best in the Big South. She has produced the team's four lowest rounds of the year; three times shooting 67 to go along with Monday afternoon's 68.
She ranks 13th in the nation in the Golfstat Cup (73.5) and is sixth in the country in putts on greens in regulation (1.826).
