BUIES CREEK, N.C. --- The Campbell University women's lacrosse team was dealt a 15-10 loss to High Point in its Big South Conference home opener at Barker-Lane Stadium on Wednesday night. Four Camels (5-6, 1-1 Big South) each scored a pair of goals including NCAA Division I scoring leader Loren Day.
Day, Annie Pazulski, Rebecca Sheinfeld and Mackenzie Koeller all found the back of the cage twice while Erica Hitch dished out a game-high four assists and scored a goal to lead CU with five points. Kaki Armiger also registered a score while Pazulski had two assist to finish with four points.
Hitch struck first for Campbell with a goal in the fifth minute of play. However, High Point (6-4, 2-0) tallied three-straight goals to take a 3-1 lead with 23:39 left in the first half. CU answered with back-to-back goals from Koeller and Day to tie the game at 3-3 midway through the first stanza.
Both sides traded scores before HPU reeled off three unanswered goals once again to take a 7-4 lead with 4:46 to play before halftime. Armiger broke up the scoring run before the Panthers scored twice in the final two minutes of the half to take a 9-5 lead at the break.
Day and Allie Foard each scored in the first three minutes of the second half as High Point took a 10-6 advantage. Pazulski found the back of the cage to pull within three of the lead, but the Panthers scored four-straight goals to take a 14-7 advantage with 16:01 left to play.
Sheinfeld scored twice to break up an 18 minute scoring drought before Pazulski scored her final goal to cut the deficit to 14-10 with 1:34 left to play. Kasey Callaway ended the scoring with seven seconds to play as the Panthers took home the five goal victory.
Samantha Herman registered a game-high three goals for High Point while Emily Meier tallied a game-high six points on four assists and two goals. Erica Perrotta registered five points on three goals and a pair of scores. Molly Andrews earned the win in the cage with nine saves on the night, including six in the first half. Despite a season-high 13 saves, Merredith Bechler took the loss.
Day tallied a game-high seven draw controls while Erin O'Hara and Bechler each had three ground balls. Kayla Reilly caused two turnovers. High Point held a narrow 31-27 advantage on shots and a 22-19 advantage in ground balls. CU owned a 17-10 advantage on the draw.
Campbell will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Radford at noon.
