Day matches program-best mark but Rams defeat Camels

RICHMOND, Va. --- Loren Day matched her program-best mark of seven goals, but Campbell suffered a 21-13 defeat to VCU on Sunday afternoon in Richmond, Va.

Day's seven scores tied the most goals for a single-game at Campbell, matching her own mark. It was the third time in her career that she hit that tally. Erica Hitch and Kayla Reilly recorded three points each for the Camels (2-3), who lost their first game in their last three outings. Hitch had a pair of goals and an assist while Reilly assisted on two goals and found the back of the cage once. Annie Pazulski recorded two points on a goal and assist.

Sky Hyatt finished with 10 points on an astounding nine goals and one assist for the Rams (2-3). Molly Bacikowski added seven points on three goals and four assists while Megan Williamson tallied three goals and two assists.

VCU jumped ahead 3-0 on three early goals in the first four minutes of play. Campbell answered with three-straight goals to tie the game at 3-3 with 23:29 left in the first half. The Rams responded with nine-straight goals to pull ahead 12-3. Day broke up the VCU scoring rally, but the Rams tacked on three more goals in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 15-4 advantage at the break.

Day recorded the first two goals of the second half to pull CU within 15-6 with 26:02 left to play. VCU quickly got those two goals back to re-gain its 11-goal lead and held a 19-8 advantage with 16:14 on the clock. The Camels reeled off four-straight scores to pull within 19-12 of the lead with 5:17 left to play. The Rams scored a pair of goals in the final two minutes while Day added her final score with 1:15 on the clock to close out the game.

Melissa Placek led CU with three draw controls and two caused turnovers while also scoring a goal. Mackenzie Koeller also found the scoring column while picking up two draw controls and a ground ball.

The Camels will return to the field on Wednesday when they head south to Jacksonville, Florida to take on Jacksonville. First draw is set for 7 p.m.
