CLINTON, S.C. --- Erica Hitch tallied seven points and Kaki Armiger scored four goals to lead Campbell to an 18-7 victory over Presbyterian on Wednesday afternoon at Martin Stadium. With the win, the Camels improve to 5-1 in the Big South Conference, adding to their best league record in program history.
Hitch dished out a game-high four assists to go with three goals. Loren Day also scored three goals to bring her season tally to 58, which is tied for the national lead. Kayla Reilly, the reigning Big South Attacker of the Week, finished with six points on four assists and two goals while Makenzie Koeller also found the back of the cage twice. CU (9-6 overall) finished with nine goal scorers overall with Carter Koontz, Rebecca Sheinfeld, Sami Smit and Katlin Steinbauer all scoring once.
After an early Presbyterian (3-12, 1-5 BSC) goal, Day and Smit each scored in the eighth minute to give Campbell a 2-1 advantage. PC tied the game at 2-2 five minutes later before Armiger and Reilly went back-to-back to give the Camels a 4-2 lead. Lauren Schaff scored for the Blue Hose to cut the deficit to 4-3 with 10 minutes to play in the first half.
Armiger answered with her second goal of the day to kick off a 4-0 scoring run for Campbell that pushed the lead to 8-3 with 6:24 on the clock. Schaff broke up the offensive spurt off an assist from Katy Richardson, but CU struck for five unanswered goals to close out the half to take a commanding 13-4 lead at the break.
The Camels netted the first four goals of the second half to make it a 9-0 scoring run and push the advantage to 17-4 with 13:52 to play. Hitch scored three goals during the long stretch while two of Day's goals came during the run.
Richardson ended PC's 26-minute scoring drought with a goal at the 10:19 mark of the final stanza. Steinbauer scored CU's final goal of the game with 5:57 remaining before the Blue Hose added two goals in the last three minutes to complete the final tally.
Campbell out-shot Presbyterian 39-15 including 29 shots on goal. CU also held a 17-9 advantage on the draw and caused 14 of Presbyterian's 26 turnovers. Reilly picked up a team-high four ground balls and Koeller led the way with four draw controls. April Reinhart caused three turnovers.
Schaff's two goals was a team-high for PC while Richardson had two points on a goal and an assist. Merredith Bechler earned the win in goal with three saves in the first half. Kylie Haarhoff had a pair of saves playing in the Campbell cage in the second half. Sophia Cuzzupe took the loss allowing 13 goals and making six saves.
The Camels will return to the field on Saturday when they travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina to take on Big South leaders Winthrop. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
