BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell track & field had multiple successful performances during day two of the Campbell Invitational Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track.
Four student-athletes set marks that put them in the top-25 of the NCAA East Region. Two of those marks also broke Campbell school records.
Sabina Allen set a new personal best in the women's triple jump at 13.09-meters. With that mark, Allen now sits in the top spot in the NCAA East Region and Top-10 in the country. The mark is also a new school record. Jaszlyn Jenkins finished second in the triple jump for Campbell, setting a new personal best of 12.06-meters.
Tatiana Wolfe broke the Campbell record in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday afternoon. Wolfe ran a new personal best of 59.43 seconds. She also sits top-25 in the NCAA East Region, placing her in strong contention to make the NCAA East Regional Meet.
On the men's side, Davian Rhodes set a new personal best in the men's high jump. The junior from Shelby, North Carolina cleared the 2.14-meter height and is now in the top-15 regionally and top-35 in the nation.
Multiple Fighting Camels set new season bests during the second day of competition. Lilla Juhasz took home first in the 100-meter hurdles, running a new season best of 13.47 seconds, finishing .25s faster than second place. She now sits top-25 in the East Region in that event. Wolfe also set a new season best in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing third with a time of 13.82 seconds.
In the men's 400-meter dash Nate Kennedy and Chigozie Atavwigho finished third and fourth overall, both setting new season bests. Kennedy ran a time of 50.23 seconds and Atavwigho ran a time of 50.34 seconds, a new personal best as well for him.
In the men's 100-meter dash, Tashinga Chitambira finished in second place, as he ran a new season best of 10.56 seconds. Khai McLin finished fourth in the event, running 10.57 seconds, a new personal best for the freshman. McLin also finished second in the 200-meter race, running a time of 21.39 seconds.
Meshack Kipruto set a new personal best in the 800-meter race, besting his previous best by 10 seconds with a time of 1:55.98. Brianna Meyrick set a new personal best by four seconds in the women's 800-meter race as well Saturday afternoon. Deonica Reid set a new season best with her 25.77-second time in the 200-meter dash.
The Campbell women's 4x100-meter and men's 4x400-meter relay teams claimed the spot in their respective events. The women's team finished with a time of 46.55 seconds while the men's team finished their event with a time of 3:39.64.
In the men's 1500-meter race, Meshack Kipruto claimed second with his time of 3:57.70, nearly beating his personal best of 3:57.37. Josh Vermette set a new personal best in the event with a time of 4:01.29, besting his previous best by more than nine seconds.
Campbell track & field returns to action in Charlottesville, Va. at the UVA Challenge beginning Friday April 22.
