PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. – Nadine White won her second collegiate title and Campbell University finished as runner-up on the team leader board after Tuesday's final round of the Web.com Intercollegiate women's golf tournament.
White became the 10th player in the program's 27-year history to win multiple tournaments in one season following her two-stroke victory at Marsh Landing Country Club. The junior from Brisbane, Australia was two-over on the final day – when only two players in the 90 golfer field shot below par – and finished the event at 4-under 212 (70-68-74).
Including her victory last September at the Golfweek Program Challenge, White became the first Camel to win twice in a year since Kaylin Yost accomplished the feat in 2013-14. Her 54-hole total (212) is tied for the fourth-lowest in school history and is five strokes off the record 207 she shot at the Program Challenge.
Middle Tennessee State (288-287-298—873) won team honors by one stroke over the Camels (286-295-293—874), who owned the low team score of the day. North Florida was third (881), one stroke ahead of Coastal Carolina and Toledo in the 16-school event.
Campbell entered the event ranked No.-55 in the nation, according to Golfstat, and finished ahead of four program's rate among the country's top 60, including No.-26 Missouri, which finished sixth.
Senior Tahnia Ravnjak tied for eighth (70-73-75—218) to earn her fourth top-10 of the year. Playing as an individual, freshman Anna Svanka earned her first career top-five by finishing fourth at even-par 216 (69-75-72).
"Everyone finished well," said Campbell head coach John Crooks. "With Nadine winning and Tahnia in the top 10 and Annie in the top 20, we had contributions all around. It's also exciting that Anna finished fourth and was even par over 54 holes for a personal best."
White led the 90-player field in par-four scoring (-2), tied for third on the par three holes (-1) and tied for fifth on the par-five layouts (-1). She made 10 birdies (6th) and 38 pars (T10th) over the three day event. One day after turning in the program's second-best 36 hole score (138), White's final round included 15 pars and one birdie.
"We worked a lot on our short game the last couple of weeks since our last tournament," said White. "Most of the time I made mistakes, I was able to recover from them and get up-and-down for par. It was very windy toward the end, especially over the last six holes, but I just had to remain focused and committed to my shots."
As a team, Campbell logged the eighth-lowest 54-hole score (874) in the program's storied history. The Camels tied for first in par-four scoring (+11), were second with 183 pars and third in birdies (33) among the 16 teams.
"There were some very good teams there and hopefully our victory over an SEC school with a ranking as high as Missouri's helps us move up further," said Crooks. "Our team played well. They were focused and made some good saves."
In just her third collegiate event, Svanka shot a career-low 69 in Monday's opening round and trimmed 18 strokes over her previous best 54 hole score. The native of Riga, Latvia tied for second in the field on the par five holes (-2) and tied for third with 11 birdies and in par-three scoring (-1).
Ravnjak logged her first top-10 finish since last October by making 38 pars (T10th) and eight birdies and playing the par-four holes at one-under to tie for second in the field.
Sjoholm produced the low round of the day (70) – one stroke shy of her collegiate low – by making four birdies and 12 pars Tuesday to earn her sixth top-20 finish of the year. Over the 54-hole event, the Vasteras, Sweden resident made 39 pars and eight birdies.
Sophomore Ayelen Irizar tied for 32nd at 9-over 225 (75-76-74) after making 36 pars and playing the par-three holes even. Junior Louise Latorre also made 36 pars over 54 holes and tied for 60th (74-78-80—232).
Campbell returns to action on Monday in the Big South Conference Championship at DeBordieu Country Club in Georgetown, S.C.
