CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Women's tennis fell in their season finale to Charlotte 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Camels fall to 11-8 while the 49ers improve to 6-9. Campbell finished the regular season with 10-plus wins for the second-straight year and the 15th time under head coach David Johnson.
Campbell started the match winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the one point heading into singles. Irina Karangozishvili and Nina Asanin defeated Tai Martin and Victoria Pahlett 6-3 on court one. Maud Mrad and Ewa Telenga won the second match 6-2 over Tyler Baker and Macy Vonderschmidt in the No. 3 match.
In the singles matches, the 49ers got up three to two with the No. 1 and 4 matches remaining. Singles matches two, three and six all went two sets with Charlotte taking two and six while Campbell won on court three. Mrad won her ninth single dual match of the season going 6-1, 6-3 over Vonderschmidt in the No. 3 position.
Sierra Stone secured the Charlotte victory by defeating Isabel Boada in the No. 4 singles match in three sets 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4. Karangozishvili won the last match over Pahlett on court one to put the final score at 4-3. She collected her 21st overall win of the season in singles action, the first time she has broken 20-plus wins in her collegiate career.
The Camels wrapped up their regular season against the 49ers and are off until they head to Lynchburg, Va. to participate in the Big South tournament. The conference action begins on April 15 with the championship match taking place on April 18 at 12 p.m.
