BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell track & field begins the 2016 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships Tuesday afternoon at Liberty University. The three-day event will take place at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.
Campbell will begin the meet at 3 p.m. in the women's long jump event. Sabina Allen, Jaszlyn Jenkins and Shenelle McKay will represent the women's team in that event. Allen currently sits 27th in the NCAA East Region for this event with her school record 6.18-meter performance at the Campbell Invitational. She also sits sixth in the NCAA East Regional for the women's triple jump which takes place at noon Thursday.
McKay looks to build upon her 1.74-meter mark in the women's high jump event, a height she cleared at the Duke Invitational. With that mark she is currently seeded inside the top-48 of the east region. The women's high jump is slated for 1 p.m. Wednesday May 11.
Also on the women's side, Lilla Juhasz seeks to defend her championship from last season in the 100-meter hurdles as she set a personal best of 13.32 seconds one year ago. She currently is No. 29 in the NCAA East Region with her time of 13.47 seconds that she ran at the Campbell Invitational.
Tatiana Wolfe is primed to make an impact in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Her 59.43 second mark is a personal best a new school record. Her time also has her seeded in east region qualification.
On the men's side, Lawrence Kipkoech looks to defend his men's 5,000-meter title as he enters the meet with a 13:57.77 mark on the season, 26th in the region. He also will be defending his 10,000-meter title as he took first place last year. He sits ninth in the east with his 29:11.00 time. Teammate Amon Terer sits fourth in the NCAA East Region with his time of 28:54.42. Terer sits two spots behind Kipkoech in the 5,000-meter east region rankings, with his 13:58.32 mark.
The men's 4x100 relay team set a new school record at the 2016 Liberty Twilight with a time of 40.60 seconds, a time that would have placed them second one season ago at the conference meet.
Davian Rhodes is currently No. 23 in the NCAA East Regional with his 2.14-meter mark in the men's high jump, a height he cleared at the Campbell University Invitational. Last season, he finished tied for second in the same event. Also in the jumps, Lorne Jenkins seeks to take home a podium finish in the men's long jump, a honor he narrowly missed last year. His current season-best of 7.39-meters would have won him the event last season, a distance he'll look to achieve this week.
