LYNCHBURG, Va. – Campbell claimed a pair of podium finishes and multiple finals qualifications on day two of the 2016 Big South Outdoor Championships hosted by Liberty University.
Shenelle McKay and Jacob Kipserem both placed third in their respective events. McKay in the women's high jump and Kipserem in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
McKay started off the day finishing third in the women's high jump. She cleared the 1.68-meter height on her second attempt en route to her bronze medal finish. During her first two heights, she cleared each mark on her first attempt.
Kipserem finished third in the men's steeplechase with his time of 9:18.37. He is the fifth Fighting Camel to claim a podium finish, following Sabina Allen, Amon Terer and Lawrence Kipkoech on day one and McKay on day two.
Cornelius Scott finished second in his 400-meter preliminary heat with a time of 49.58 seconds. He has qualified for the finals, which are set for Thursday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. Nate Kennedy set a personal best in his final outdoor 400-meter race of his collegiate career, running 49.96 seconds.
In the men's 100-meter dash, Tashinga Chitambira claimed first place in his heat with his personal best of 10.43 seconds. That mark places him in the top-40 of the NCAA East Region. Khai McLin also placed first in his heat, running a new personal best of 10.51 seconds. Chitambira and McLin are the top two qualifiers for Thursday's final race.
Roshae Jackson won her flight in the women's 800-meter preliminary race and is seeded fourth overall with her time of 2:13.04.
The women's 100-meter hurdles featured one Campbell member in each of the two flights. In the first flight, Lilla Juhasz took first place with her time of 14.07 seconds. Tatiana Wolfe also claimed first place in the second heat, finishing with a time of 14.10 seconds. The women's 100-meter hurdles finals event is slated for Thursday afternoon at 1:40 p.m.
Overall, Campbell's men's side sits fourth with 29 points and the women's team is currently sixth with 18 points.
