LYNCHBURG, Va . – Campbell track & field capped off the final day at the 2016 Big South Track & Field Championships with multiple podium finishes, new school records and strong performances from many of the competitiors.
Following the conclusion of the meet, Khai McLin was honored as the Big South Male Freshman of the Year as he earned a pair of first place finishes and a second place finish. Lawrence Kipkoech won the Big South Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year with two gold medal wins and a silver medal win. Sabina Allen was named the Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Year earning first place in two of the three jumps events.
Overall, Campbell's men's team finished third with 138 team points, the highest team finish in program history. The women's team claimed fourth place with 108 points overall.
The men's 4x100 team, Lorne Jenkins, and Roshae Jackson each broke a Campbell record during the third day of competition at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.
On the men's 4x100-meter side, the team of Jenkins, Tashinga Chitambira, McLin and Fabian Jarrett finished first overall with a time of 40.08 seconds. With that time, the quartet broke the Matthes-Hopkins Track facility record and set a new school record. They are now tied for 28th in the east region.
McLin also claimed first place in the men's 200-meter race as he set a new personal best of 20.81 seconds. He now sits tied for 27th in the NCAA East Region in this event.
A 15.35-meter jump in the men's triple jump by Jenkins broke a two year Campbell record en route to his third place finish. With that mark, he is now seeded 39th in the NCAA East Region.
Roshae Jackson finished third place in the women's 800-meter race with her new personal best of 2:09.99. She also broke the previous school record, set in 2004 by Alicia Valtin at 2:11.88.
Campbell's Sabina Allen and Shenelle McKay took home first and third in the women's triple jump respectively. Allen took home the top spot with her jump of 12.63-meters, improving on her 12.58-meter mark in the preliminary heat. McKay finished in third place with a personal best of 11.80-meters, providing key points for the women's team in the overall standings.
Davian Rhodes claimed another first place finish for the Orange and Black, setting a new personal best in the men's high jump with his clearance of the 2.15-meter bar. He also broke the Liberty facility record with his successful jump at that height.
Chitambira and McLin sprinted to a 1-2 finish in the men's 100-meter dash finals. Chitambira tied his personal best with time of 10.49 seconds. McLin set a new personal best en route to his silver medal finish at 10.53 seconds.
Joan Maritim finished first in the women's 5,000-meter race, taking home a time of 17:13.07, 28 seconds faster than second place. During the women's 1,500-meter race Maritim finished in third place, surpassing the previous meet record with her time of 4:28.08. She also set a new personal best with her bronze medal finish.
Kipkoech added to his trophy closet as he claimed gold in the men's 1,500-meter race, sprinting across the line at 3:53.30, .69 seconds faster than second place. In the 5,000-meter race, Kipkoech took home gold with his time of 14:39.10 and teammate Amon Terer finished in second place, .25 seconds behind Kipkoech.
Tatiana Wolfe added another gold for the Fighting Camels, finishing the 400-meter hurdles with her finishing time of 1:01.51. She took the top spot in the preliminary race as well, completing her heat in 1:00.19.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Allen, Lilla Juhasz, Denoica Reid and Jocelyn Culbreath finished in third place with a time of 46.55 seconds.

Campbell will now await for the final list of regional qualifiers set to be released after the final weekend of competition. As it stands, the Fighting Camels could send more than 10 student-athletes to the NCAA East Regional Meet in Jacksonville, Florida.
