Tom Pool named Campbell men's soccer assistant coach

BUIES CREEK, N.C. --- Campbell head men's soccer coach Dustin Fonder has announced the addition of Tom Pool to the Camels' coaching staff as an assistant for the upcoming 2016 season. Pool will serve as the coordinator of international recruiting, film analysis and all other day-to-day aspects of the program.

Pool comes to Buies Creek after spending last season as an assistant coach at Wright State University. He helped lead the Raiders to a 12-8-1 overall record and a trip to the Horizon League championship match.

During his tenure, Wright State ranked as high as No. 20 in the country according to Top Draw Soccer, which was the highest ranking in school history. Pool served as the Raiders' international recruiting coordinator in addition to day-to-day coaching responsibilities.

"Tom is a very focused and driven young coach," said Fonder. "He is a proven winner, knows how to relate to student-athletes and has great ties internationally. We expect him to help us in all areas of the program from day one."

Pool, a native of Bedfordshire, England, spent the 2013-14 seasons as an assistant at the University of the District of Columbia. He helped turn the Firebirds into an East Coast Conference contender as they rose to No. 21 in the 2014 NSCAA Division II national rankings.

Pool began his coaching career at his alma mater, Slippery Rock University, during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He helped the Rock maintain its top 20 national ranking during his coaching stint and assisted with all areas of the team. Pool was a two-time all-American, all-region and all-conference selection as a player at Slippery Rock and was a key member of its 2009 conference championship team.

"I'm really excited to come to Campbell and work with Coach Fonder," said Pool. "I was really drawn to his vision, desire to win, and his positive reputation in the Division I men's soccer community. A chance to join this coaching staff is a great opportunity, but I would be remised if I didn't thank Wright State for my time there. I hope to use all of my past coaching experiences to help Campbell win Big South championships and NCAA Tournament bids."
