BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mogga Lado, a 6-foot-7 forward from Nampa, Idaho, has signed an athletics grant-in-aid with Campbell University, men's basketball head coach Kevin McGeehan announced Friday.
Lado joins the Fighting Camels after spending two years at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Wash., where he helped his team compile a 49-17 record and win a pair of region titles.
"Mogga is a great addition to our program," said McGeehan, who is entering his fourth year in charge of the Camels. "He will provide some really good experience in our front court. He is a very good athlete who is strong and has proven his ability as a defender in the junior college ranks at Big Bend. He has a nice knack for scoring around the basket both with his back to the basket and facing up."
Lado averaged 16.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in 2015-16 and shot 63 percent from the floor – third-best in the Northwest Athletic Association. A first-team all-region choice, he was named NWAC East Region defensive player of the year for a Big Bend team that finished 13-1 in league play.
As a freshman in 2014-15, Lado averaged 14.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and shot 57 percent from the floor and was named second-team all-region.
A 2014 graduate of Columbia High School in Nampa, Idaho, Lado earned first team all-league honors following his junior and senior years. He broke the school record for rebounds in a game (23). Lado also played wide receiver and defensive back on the Columbia football team.
Lado joins forwards Austin Burnette (Raleigh, N.C.) and Damontez Oliver (Glen Allen, Va.) and guards Marcus Burk (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Cory Gensler (Cary, N.C.) in the 2015-16 Fighting Camel recruiting class. Campbell returns three of its top five scorers from a team that finished 12-18 last season and earned a win over Conference USA member Charlotte, while going 2-0 against Southern Conference members. Chris Clemons, the 2016 Big South freshman of the year, returns after ranking seventh among the nation's freshman scoring leaders (18.5), along with senior guard Kyre' Hamer (9.5) and junior forward Shane Whitfield (7.6).
