Terer and Kipkoech qualify for NCAA National Meet

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Day one of the 2016 NCAA East Regional was held Thursday evening at the University of North Florida. Campbell had six total competitors throughout the day, competing in five events.

Amon Terer highlighted day one for Campbell, taking first place in the men's 10,000-meter race and qualifying for the NCAA National Meet in Eugene, Oregon. He took the top spot with his time of 30:03.00. He finished .59 seconds in front of second place. Terer's last lap was timed at 57.81 seconds, closing his final mile at 4:20.

Lawrence Kipkoech also earned a spot to the national meet with his seventh place finish in the 10K, finishing with a time of 30:05.20. He was seeded 8th in the regional ranking entering the race. Kipkoech will make his second consecutive appearance in the NCAA National Meet, as the top-12 of the regional meet qualify. He and Terer will also compete in the men's 5,000-meter race Saturday, May 28. 

In the women's 10,000-meter race, Joan Maritim finished 28th overall with her time of 35:33.05. Her time duirng Thursday's race is the second fastest in school history, only behind her school record and regional qualifying mark set earlier this season at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier

On the women's side, Tatiana Wolfe completed in the women's 400-meter hurdles, entering the meet with a regional ranking of 36th. During the race Thursday afternoon, Wolfe finished the race in 1:00.42, finishing 38th overall.

Tashinga Chitambira was ranked 37th in region for the men's 100-meter dash. He finished fifth overall in his heat and 35th in the group with his time of 10.679 seconds. Chitambira will return to action during the men's 4x100-meter relay race. 

In the field events, Sabina Allen competed in the first round of the women's long jump. She entered ranked 27th in the region. Her jump of 5.70-meters placed her 38th in the overall group and 8th in her heat. Allen will also compete in the women's triple jump, an event in which she is ranked 12th in the region. 

With their top-12 finishes, Terer and Kipkoech's season will continue in the 10,000-meter at the NCAA National Meet in Eugene, Oregon, June 6-8. Day two begins tomorrow for Campbell at 5 p.m. in the women's 100-meter hurdles.
