LYNCHBURG, Va. – The men's 4x100-meter team and Joan Maritim broke school records and Tashinga Chitambira set a NCAA East Regional mark at 2016 Liberty Twilight Qualifier Wednesday evening.
Along with Chitambira in the 100-meter dash, Maritim also set a NCAA East Regional mark in the 10,000-meter race.
The Fighting Camels 4x100-meter relay broke the Campbell record that was set in 2011. The team , which consisted of Lorne Jenkins, Chitambira, Khai McLin and Fabian Jarrett, completed the event in 40.60 seconds, .09 faster than the previous school record.
In the mixed 10,000-meter race, Maritim finished fourth overall and first among the female competitors. She completed the 25-lap race in 34:55.85, breaking a 15-year school record previously held by Susie Welty at 37:06.15. With that time, she is now in the top-48 for the event in the east region.
Chitambira's NCAA East Regional mark occurred in the men's 100-meter dash. In the preliminary heat, he boasted a personal best of 10.48 seconds. Later in the day, the senior bested that mark with a time of 10.46 seconds. The time set in the finals places him within the top-40 of region.
Also at Wednesday's meet, Nate Kennedy set a new personal best in the men's 400-meter hurdle event along with Jacob Kipserem who posted a new season best in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase event.
